How Labyrinth Compressors Work
The labyrinth compressor is composed of a cylinder with a labyrinth groove and a piston to form a sealed compression chamber, and the volume of unit compressed gas is changed by the reciprocating motion of the piston, thereby increasing the pressure of the compressed gas. The labyrinth seal is sealed by the leakage of the medium in the labyrinth groove. The labyrinth seal of the labyrinth compressor has two parts, one part is the seal between the labyrinth piston and the cylinder, and the other part is the seal between the labyrinth packing and the piston rod. The two parts have the same sealing principle.
As shown in the figure, under a certain small gap, a very small part of the medium flows from the high pressure side to the low pressure side through each throttling point. When passing through each node, the gas converts the pressure energy into kinetic energy. When the gas enters the cogging slot , due to the sudden expansion of the volume, the gas velocity drops rapidly (close to zero), part of its kinetic energy is converted into heat energy, and the other part is converted into eddy current energy. After continuous and evenly distributed throttling and repeated action of the cogging vortex chamber, the pressure of the leaking gas is reduced to the pressure on the low pressure side to meet the air tightness requirements.
